Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Projek57?

Projek57 is a social enterprise inspired by the vision of many different kinds of people embracing each other, living and working well together in Malaysia.

Projek57 is non-political and non-partisan.

Our focus are the youths, the future of our nation. We collaborate with universities and colleges to engage youths in projects to build unity, and empower underprivileged youths through retail training. We also collaborate with like-minded corporates and organisations working towards a common vision of a united Malaysia, and participate in community events.

We are a social enterprise. To sustain ourselves, we sell T-shirts and merchandise which display positive and meaningful messages about our nation.

We want 1,000,000 Malaysians who share our vision to wear our T-shirts. Our T-shirts are walking billboards through which Malaysians can display and share our vision for Malaysia.

For every T-shirt sold, RM5 goes to a beneficiary. In addition, 40% of our company profits will go to empowerment programmes for underprivileged youths and single moms.

What is a social enterprise?

The Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) defines a Social Enterprise as an “entity that achieves a social mission by using a business model. Social enterprises combine elements of NGOs and for-profit companies.” A social enterprise’s primary mission is sustainable social impact, not shareholder returns. However, they earn their money through a business model, and a certain portion of the proceeds may be returned to investors, after enough has been reinvested into the business to keep it sustainable.

Who are the founders?

Projek57 was founded in August 2015 by Collin Swee and Syed Sadiq Albar, entrepreneurs and business partners for over 15 years. Read more about them here.

Why are you doing this?

We believe in unity and hope for our nation. Malaysia is our home, where our friends and family are. We believe that as a united, positive rakyat, we have what it takes to build Malaysia into a nation that lives up to the values of our founding fathers: a nation which embraces its people and their diversity. We wanted a way to spread our message to as many as possible, and we decided to do it through T-shirts and merchandise where the Projek57 message could be worn or displayed proudly. We also wanted to give back to those who have less and need a helping hand. RM5-00 per T-shirt purchased goes to beneficiaries. In addition, 40% of company profits will be channeled towards these beneficiaries. We also believe that empowerment of single mothers and underprivileged youths are a means through which they may find new opportunities to break free from the cycle of poverty. Single mothers are the nucleus of their families, and youths are the future of our nation. Read more about this here.
